I've reworked equipment again.

Previously, melee characters had the following slots:

  1. Weapon
  2. Shield
  3. Misc.
  4. Misc.
  5. Book

Energy characters had the following:

  1. Weapon
  2. Misc.
  3. Misc.
  4. Book

The book slot is a special item slot that gives major bonuses. Some also have major downsides.

My issue was that there was no shield equivalent for energy characters. Shields don't add more defence, rather they take off a percentage of damage taken. Also, I had 5 unused armour slots left... So, I made a new slot type that both melee AND energy characters use.

Introducing, stones! There are 5 of them corresponding to the 5 elemental damages you'll come across. Each stone has two purposes: reducing damage taken by 25% for a particular element, and making all attacks inflict damage of that type. That means that any sword could inflict fire damage, giving the stones a strategic use depending on the area you're in. Do you want a 25% damage reduction, or to deal extra damage? For the melee characters this choice is harder because you have to forgo a shield for a stone.

As I said before, shields already give damage reduction. Extra damage reduction on top of that would be borderline broken, so I had to limit it somewhat. The weakest shield can still use stones because it has no elemental resistance, though.

I also gave energy characters an extra misc slot so they have the same number of slots as melee. These are the new slot orders:

Melee:

  1. Weapon
  2. Shield
  3. Stone
  4. Body
  5. Misc.
  6. Misc.
  7. Book

Energy:

  1. Weapon
  2. Stone
  3. Body
  4. Misc.
  5. Misc.
  6. Misc.
  7. Book
